Republican
Chris Christie takes the reins
in Trenton as our 55th Governor with "now" former Monmouth
County Sheriff
Kim Guadagno
as New Jersey's first Lieutenant Governor at his side and this
evening we await the results of the Massachusetts US Senate
race.
An outcome the pundits tell us will
have a far reaching impact.
As I
await the results of that special election, I couldn't imagine a
more fitting time to begin this update on all things political
in Freehold Township.
It appears that Republican
Scott Brown might just win in
Massachusetts.
What? A Mass. Republican winning a
US Senate seat?
Stop.
Not since 1972 has a Republican won
a Senate seat in the Bay State.
As many of you may already be aware,
a month ago the thought of a Republican winning that Senate seat
which had been held by a member of the Kennedy family since 1952
was thought unattainable.
A Republican candidate winning?
Winning Teddy's seat?
You would have to be smoking a
little of that New Jersey medical marijuana to even contemplate
such a thought.
Locally, Freehold Township’s Republican
organization lead the way to victory.
From the bottom of the ticket lead
by Committee members
Anthony Ammiano &
Bob McGirr right on up to the
top of the ticket with the aforementioned Chris Christie.
Along the way we help return
Republican leadership to the Monmouth County Board of Chosen
Freeholders with the election of
John
Curley.
I’m pretty confident Curley wore out
a pair of walking shoes as he was often sited in Freehold
Township during the campaign.
And of course, our two favorite
State legislative representatives
Declan O’Scanlon &
Caroline Casagrande easily won
their reelection bids.
How big of a roll did Freehold Township
play?
Think of it this way, during the
last gubernatorial election in 2005 Freehold Township’s
Republican vote total was 5,295 in 2009 our Republican total was
7,865 and by a very small percentage the voter turnout in 2009
was just shy of that in 2005!!
Wow! Scott Brown is up by five points with
more than 50 percent of the vote counted.
It might just happen.
Happy New Year!
Well I guess this would be a good time to kickoff talk of the
2010 campaign season.
2010 is a "mid-term" election. Our
Congressional candidates in the 4th & 12th will be at the top of
our ticket this fall.
As I write this I know that the
specter of a Primary is shaping up in both of those Districts.
In the 4th District we have already heard
rumblings that our Republican Representative
Chris Smith may face a Primary
challenge and in the 12th
two individuals have already announced their intentions to
challenge the guy from that other party representing the 12th
Congressional District.
Fair Haven Mayor
Michael Halfacre & Princeton
businessman
Scott Sipprelle
will likely square off in a June primary for the opportunity to
go up against that guy currently representing the 12th. You know
that guy, that Corzine toady, the one who supported the former
Governors effort to increase our highway tolls.
We've gotta get rid of him.
O.K. this is getting
crazy now...Brown is up with 66% of the vote in!
Back to the local thing.
Our Mayor,
Dorothy Avallone, will look to
her own re-election this year.
At the County level, Republican
Rob Clifton
will seek re-election along with a Republican Candidate "to be
named later" in an effort to increase the size of the newly
found Republican majority on the Monmouth County Board of Chosen
Freeholders.
Alright!
AP just reported “Marsha”
Coakley has conceded...yes, the
unthinkable has happened...and yes, I am a slow typist.
Well, 2010 is definitely beginning to shape
up as a great Republican year. And no doubt, a busy one too.
